#1 - Amelia
Created at the McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, North Carolina. This was the first piece in this series. After finding a life preserver in a thrift shop ($3) I took it back to my studio and took it apart, trying to figure out how it was sewn. The fabric was bought new; it reminded me of print that might be used for a housecoat. The pattern is a blue flower on a white background. I did not do this piece as a portrait, but rather an experiment: What if I took this life preserver apart?

#2 - Untitled
Another in the series; with this piece I was playing with the pure amusement of a plaid life preserver!
The piece was part of FeltUp!, an exhibition of contemporary felted wool in downtown Wilmington, N.C. The show was put on by the Independent Art Company. The ties are made from vintage suspenders.

I completed this piece prior to taking a Hawaiian cruise with my parents. I thought about taking it along with me and wearing it when they did the ship drills. There is something simple and yet complex about this piece.

created this piece while doing
a residency at Ragdale, a wonderful artist colony in Lake Forest,
Illinois. The fabric reminded me of a woman I use to work with.

This is a second piece I created at Ragdale. I used an off-white canvas; there was something about being true to the form and bringing this object down to its essentials. It reminded me of Grau, the minimalist painting by G. Richter.
